Newly-crowned Scottish Nationals champion Fiona Hughes is turning her attention to the Glasgow Charity Pickleball Festival.
It takes place on Saturday 28 June at Scotstoun Badminton Academy in Glasgow – all to raise funds for Waverley Care.
“The festival has sold out with a waiting list now in place which I think is a real reflection of the enthusiasm and generosity of the pickleball community,” says Fiona.
“Waverley Care is a fantastic HIV charity that’s based in Edinburgh, that is dedicated to raising awareness, increasing testing, and combating the stigma surrounding HIV. They offer a comprehensive range of services, including support groups, counselling, and testing, for individuals living with or affected by HIV. The Scottish government has set a target of reaching zero new HIV transmissions by 2030 and Waverley Care is playing a vital role in helping to achieve this.”
Waverley Care is Fiona’s employer’s corporate charity partner, so she is very familiar with their work and impact.
“I know how much they care and make a real difference in people’s lives, and I wanted to get involved in a much more active way,” she says. “This felt like a natural way to connect something I care about with something I love doing.”
