Josh Bright had a sensational time at the English Nationals – winning gold in the men’s doubles with Louis Laville, and bronze in the mixed with Ellie Tomkinson.
“Louis and I seemed to click from the off with our game styles and it was brilliant playing with someone of that level who was able to teach me things throughout the day,” Josh told Pickleball 52.
“Our level seemed to improve game by game heading into the final – we always knew playing James [Chaudry] and Ben [Cawston] was going to be a tough feat.”
He says he and Louis played “probably the best first set we could have”, with barely a ball missed by the pair, although their level dropped a little in the second.

“Going into the third we were confident and came out all guns blazing and managed to play our style of pickleball and created the patterns we wanted,” he says.
And in the mixed, he describes Ellie’s performance as “unreal”, adding: “We seem to keep getting better and better as a partnership every tournament we play.”
Still a novice in the sport, the two medals are evidence of the hard work he’s put in.
“I am extremely pleased to see the difference the last year has made since starting out playing the sport and this result is the product of all the time I’ve put in travelling and training throughout the year – and it’s crazy to see the improvements thinking back to the year before.”
