Wales announce team trials for European Championships

Pickleball Wales have announced they will be holding trials for September’s European Championships.

They are looking for two teams, for the 18+ category and the 50+ category, and trials for both will be held in Telford on Sunday 27th July from 10am to 2pm.

In addition to availability for the trial date, candidates need to have been born in Wales or have lived in Wales for more than two years, and have not represented any other country in the last 12 months.

Men should have a minimum DUPR rating of 4.0 and women 3.75.

Interested players are asked to apply first in writing by Friday 20th June to info@pickleballwales.org and detail their current DUPR rating (if unavailable then an explanation of why they should be considered), their experience, their competition history over the last 18 months, and their successes, including medals won.

Pickleball 52 have been told that Pickleball Wales’ board of directors will review applications to ensure all qualifying criteria are met, at which point they will be invited to the trials. The board will consider exceptional circumstances where individuals are unable to attend the trial date but meet all other criteria. The trials themselves will be run by Mike Lynch of Telford Pickleball whose expertise will feed into software to create an order of play, input results, and produce a league table to form the basis of the final team selection.

Successful candidates will be expected to cover their own travel and accommodation at the European Championships in Rome; Pickleball Wales have paid the team’s entry fee.
